I sat down with Tanner Morris to talk about his theater experience and the recent production he directed, “Yes, Virginia, There Is A Santa Claus” at East Valley Children’s Theatre. He gave me a fun sneak peek into  “The Frog Prince” coming Feb. 16–26.

“I’m stepping away from directing and going back to stage managing the next show. (It’s) the winner of EVCT’s playwriting contest. It’s a musical, and there’s  basketball in it!” says Morris.

“You’re killing me, Smalls” is a famous line from the 1993 baseball movie “The Sandlot.” In September, I met some of the now grown up cast from the movie. Tom Guiry (Smalls), Marty York (Yeah-Yeah) and Victor DiMattia (Timmy) were at an autograph signing event at Harley’s Toys & Comics at Tucson Mall. All of the actors let me call them by their movie character names when I interviewed them.

During the three-day weekend on Sept. 2–4, I attended the 13th annual Tucson Comic-Con. This event was held at the Tucson Convention Center in downtown Tucson. It started at 3 p.m. on Friday and ran through Sunday at 5 p.m. This was the first Comic-Con in several years due to COVID cancellations the past few years. This was my first time attending Comic-Con and it was almost overwhelming because it was so large and there was so much to do.

On Aug. 28, I went to The Fox Theatre to attend the Andy Grammer concert with opening artist Art Bloom. The Fox Theatre was built in 1930, and years later it was abandoned. Upon reopening they tried to restore its original look. Upon entering the venue you have a sense of awe—amazed by an original fountain and walls full of paintings. Entering the auditorium, the ceiling was covered in vintage carpeting and had beautiful chandeliers that looked like suns. The stage was set for the singers—they had fog machines and instruments for a live show.

In 2019, an estimated 792 movies were produced in the U.S. and Canada before the coronavirus pandemic affected the film industry. Moviemaking is a complicated process that takes time and effort which is often overlooked when watching the actual movie, although the people behind the scenes are as crucial to the moviemaking process as the actors. While watching a movie can be super fun, making a movie can be a little bit stressful.
