Arizona's leading newspaper for kids, families and classrooms

Dear Boomer Bear,
I think your newspaper is great! The articles are very interesting, (and) I like how you have all the attractions around Arizona to go to. I'm lucky enough to win many of your fun contests. Now I can't stop reading the newspaper. Everything in the newspaper teaches us to be better people and just have fun!

Your friend,
W.Q.

Dear W.Q.,
You are certainly my kind of reader! I really dig all your positive feedback. If you like Arizona, you've gotta check out this month's main feature on pages 22 and 23. Our state offers some awesome outdoor areas that will totally wow kids and families. Remember, readers are winners when it comes to Bear Essential News.

Dear Boomer,
I've never seen a polar bear before. They look like they are very soft. Are polar bears soft or not? Have you ever seen a penguin. What kind have you seen? Are they soft, too? I've never seen one of them either. I know some are black and white, but not all.

From R.L.

Dear R.L.,
Polar bear fur has a couple different layers. We have long, coarse guard hairs and a plush thick undercoat, which helps keep us warm way up north. I come from the northern parts of Canada, but I also have cousins up in Alaska. I don't think the zoo has penguins. Personally, I've only seen them in places like Sea World. They actually don't live anywhere near the arctic, where polar bears live. My favorite ones are the rockhoppers, the macaroni penguins and the great big emperor penguins.

Dear Boomer,
I want to become a Young Reporter. I asked my mom and she said it was OK. But there's one problem, I don't know how!

Sincerely,
S.V.

Dear S.V.,
Sounds like you've been bitten by the reporting bug-I hear it's catching on. I'm thrilled that you want to join the Young Reporters program, where you can write for Bear Essential News and the Tucson Citizen, and broadcast your stories on KVOA-4. Kids in grades 3 through 8 can join this amazing journalism program. Just call Stephen at 792-9930 for the sign-up forms. Young Reporters cover what's happening in their world-at school, at their club or in their community.

The sky's the limit,
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,
How are you doing today? I hope you had a great lunch and that you're having a great day. Is it fun being a bear? Do you have any sisters or brothers? Is your mom nice, Boomer? What's your favorite animal? Mine is a horse.

Your friend,
J.T.

Dear J.T.,
My day's going fine-my school served up pepperoni pizza, which is my favorite. I don't have any sisters or brothers, but I have the nicest mom in the world! Being a bear, I can honestly say that I have tons of fun just about every day. I love getting letters from kids like you. After polar bears, my favorite animals are chimps and dogs.

See ya!
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer:
How old are you? Do you ride your bike? What do you do to stay healthy? What moves can you do?

Sincerely,
Y.G.

Dear Boomer,
Do you like sports? I like sports-they are fun and cool. Sports will get you healthy and strong.

Sincerely,
P.L.

Dear Y.G. & P.L.,
You might not be able to tell, but beneath all this thick fur of mine is a finely tuned athlete with dance moves humans can only dream of doing! Maybe it's having four feet that gives me the edge in playing soccer and on the dance floor. When it comes to sports, I love playing ´em and watching ´em. I also play basketball, baseball and tennis, and am a natural when it comes to swimming. Springtime is great for sports. Did you take in any spring training games or watch any of college hoops' March Madness?

Keep moving!
Boomer Bear
