Dear Boomer,
Sometimes I’m a little scared of doing or maybe even saying something, and I wanted to know if I should just conquer my fears and go for it.

Your pal,
W.A.M.

Dear W.A.M.,
Some folks take more risks than others. To me, there are good risks and bad risks. Obviously, you aren’t a big risk taker, and it’s bothering you. As you know, staying in your safe zone all the time can mean missing out on good opportunities and fun. Taking good risks—putting yourself out there a little bit—helps build your confidence and helps you grow as a person.

Yours truly,
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,
I want to become a reporter for you. In my school, I could become one, but I’m too busy with other classes instead of writing class. I like writing and drawing. Please tell me how to become a Young Reporter!!

Sincerely,
P.J.

Hi, Boomer!
I have trouble in math and got held back because I’m not good at math. So I’m in sixth grade and am supposed to be in seventh. My mom and I are trying to see if I can skip a grade, but they might not let me because I’m not good at math. I don’t know what to do to change all that.

Your #1 fan,
D.V.

Dear D.V.,
When it comes to school, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. No one likes to be held back a grade. It’s a really good sign that you and your mom are concerned and want to get things back on track. Obviously, you need to focus on your math skills. Maybe you could ask your teacher for a few extra homework problems each week. A math tutor also might help!

Hang in there,
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,
I always wonder why summer is burning hot! Inside our car it takes half an hour to cool down, and when it stops, it gets burning hot right away. I can’t wait until winter! It’s really sad for the polar bears—because there is global warming, all their ice is melting.

Sincerely,
H.N.

Dear H.N.,
Take it from me, a polar bear in the Arizona desert, it does get unbelievably hot in these parts! I love it when the weather cools. For now, I’m counting on our summer monsoons to cool things off in the late afternoons. When it comes to my relatives up north, I hope they find a way to adapt to their changing environment. In the meantime,
I’m going to do my part to reduce global warming.

Stay cool,
Boomer Bear
