Bear Essential News for Kids

Bees Foundation Inc

Arizona's leading newspaper for kids, families and classrooms

Dear Boomer,

Last month I had a baby brother—his name is D.S. He is very cute! I’m the oldest of four siblings. How many siblings do you have? I would like to be a Young Reporter. I’m an A+ student, and I get (my) highest scores in writing. (Not that I’m showing off!) I think you’re really cool.

Your friend,
N.G.S.

Dear N.G.S.,

Congrats on the newest addition to your family. With four kids, including a newborn, I bet things can get pretty crazy around your home. You sure seem confident, outgoing and responsible. I think these are qualities that a lot of oldest siblings have. And these personality traits are perfect for my Young Reporters Program.
Kids in grades 3 through 8 can write for Bear Essential News and even go on TV to broadcast their stories on FOX10 and My 45. To join, just call Valarie at 480-752-BEAR, and she’ll send you the forms that you need. Your baby bro is very lucky to have a sis like you. You can write for us!

Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,

How old are you? I’m in third grade and am having trouble with fractions. I need your help, Boomer.

Sincerely,
F.M.

Dear F.M.,

Lots of kids have problems learning fractions. To help, ask your teacher for a few extra math problems so you can practice at home. When you bring them back, your teacher can go over your work with you to get you on track. As for me, I’m 10 and am still working on fractions in fifth grade!

Don’t give up,
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,

I love all of your activities in the news just for kids. I play baseball, soccer and kickball at my house. I like playing with my brothers, sister and my parents. I (also) like to play video games. I have a Nintendo and a Playstation.

From,
E.H.

Dear E.H.,

Thanks for using Bear Essential News all the time. You know what they say—the family that plays together stays healthy and happy together! I bet you have a whole lot of fun around your house (and a lot of busted windows from all those balls flying around). You are really lucky to have that kind of family time together. Switching gears to video games, have you had the chance to try out Wii and Playstation 3? Which do you like better?

Have a ball,
Boomer Bear

To Boomer Bear,

Hey, my name is D. I’m 9 years old and in third grade. This is my first time writing to you. You are the best pen pal ever.

Sincerely,
D.

Dear D.,

When it comes to letter writing, flattery will get you everywhere! I think you’re the best pen pal ever. Write me back!

Tu amigo,
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,

I would like to publish poems for kids. One of my favorite subjects at school is writing. My parents say I might be a good poet when I grow up.

Your friend, C. M.

Dear C.M.,

I’d love to read a few of your poems for kids! I think we have a lot in common. Not only is writing one of my favorite subjects, I also love to write (and read) poetry. Right now, my class is learning the art of writing Haiku. While I think they’re beautiful, I really like poems that rhyme the best. In fact, the first books I ever read rhymed—“Green Eggs and Ham” by Dr. Seuss and “Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?” by Bill Martin Jr. I hope you find a lot of success in writing poetry for kids!

Your polar poet,
Boomer Bear
