There’s no better time to become a Young Reporter—my free workshop is Saturday, Oct. 25, from 9 a.m. to noon. At the workshop, kids in grades 3 through 8 learn the ins and outs of reporting as they become official Young Reporters, writing for Bear Essential News and the Tucson Citizen and broadcasting on TV with KVOA-4. But you, your teacher or parent must reserve your space before the workshop by calling 792-9930.

I have a lot of friends in junior high, and I’ve been meeting new friends each year. But now I have a problem. There’s a boy who’s always being nice to me, but nobody likes him. When I hang out with him, my friends get mad. When I leave him by himself, he gets sad. I don’t know what to do because I want to be friends with everybody without hurting their feelings. HELP!

I’m just in fifth grade, but I have heard how territorial friends in middle school and junior high can be. It certainly puts you in a very tough spot. I think I’m a lot like you—I pick my friends based on how nice they are and not on how popular they are! I’m impressed with how you’re sensitive to all your buddies. Sounds like some of them need to adjust their attitudes.

What do I like about polar bears? There are so many great things about them, like they have blubber underneath their fur and that they love the cold. Their fur is like insulation. There are so many (other) great things about polar bears that I don’t have room to list them.

I love pizza and everything about it. Most of all, it’s the cheese, sauce and dough that makes a great pizza. Around the world, pizzas are being made in different shapes and sizes. (People) enjoy pepperoni, sausage, peppers, mushrooms and much more.

With so many special events going on during the holidays, there’s no better time to become a Young Reporter! Best of all, this real-world journalism program is free for kids in grades 3 through 8.
Start by going to my new Web site for the Young Reporters sign-up forms: www.bearessentialnews.com and be sure to select the Phoenix tab at the top of the page. Print and fill out the forms, and mail them in.
In a couple weeks, I'll send you your official reporters kit so you can start writing for Bear Essential News and even go on TV with FOX10 and My 45.
