Dear Boomer Bear,
I’m so glad that I have signed up to write for the Young Reporters (Program). Sometimes I write about family vacations. Soon, I’m going hunting with my family, which will be a great thing to write about. Some people say that writing is boring, but I say it’s not—it’s fun! That’s why I’m becoming a Young Reporter.
Sincerely,
M.L.
Dear M.L.,
Congratulations, Young Reporter! Kids who join this free journalism program open the door to a whole new world by writing for Bear Essential News for Kids. Check out my main feature on pages 16 & 17 to learn the basics of reporting. Kids in grades 3 through 8 can print their sign-up forms by visiting www.BearEssentialNews.com
and clicking on Young Reporters.
You have the write stuff,
Boomer Bear
Dear Boomer,
I’m in fourth grade (because I skipped kindergarten). There is a problem at my school. Every day at the end of school, someone’s backpack is open and laying on the ground. Today, all the things in my friend’s backpack were all (over) the ground. What do you think I should do?
Your friend, F.P.
Dear F.P .,
It’s great that you want to do something about the problem. It sounds like someone (or maybe a small group of kids) is playing a mean prank. Obviously you need to watch your stuff that you bring to school. With luck, someone’s going to see who’s dumping backpacks.
Keep an eye out, Boomer Bear
Dear Boomer,
On winter break I went to my aunt’s. I think we should have (video) games for free and little stuff for free, too.
Sincerely, Y.A.
Dear Y.A.,
I hope you had a fantastic holiday break. Didja have a good time visiting your aunt? Sure, video games are a lot of fun, but I’d rather have an exciting book
any day! Speaking of books, the first-ever Tucson Festival of Books is March 14 & 15 at the UofA (see page 31 for details).
Readers are winners, Boomer Bear
Dear Boomer,
Why can’t kids who are 13 drive? We are very responsible.
—G.R.
Dear G.R.,
Who are you kidding? Not all 13-year-olds are what I’d call responsible. Until you’re old enough to get your learner’s permit, you’ll just have to settle for go-carts—they’re a blast!
Vroom, vroom!

Dear Boomer,
Why do I have to eat fruit?
—J.E.
Dear J.E.,
From bananas to blueberries, I love eating fruit! Not only are they sweet and delicious, they’re really good for you, too.
