Dear Boomer,
My dad has leukemia. Is there anything I can do about it? Can you please let me know if I can do anything?

Your friend, C.W.

Hey, C.W.!
When someone you love is sick or injured, sometimes it's the simple, everyday things you do that can mean the most. I spoke with Dr. Karen Weihs who heads up Psychosocial Support and PsychoOncology Services at the Arizona Cancer Center. She studies the importance of family support to people who are fighting cancer. Dr. Weihs says that keeping your dad part of your regular life is very important. Spend time with him. Share what's going on at school and whatever else you're into. She suggests a lot of hugs. And don’t be shy about telling him how terrific he is. Every now and then, you can ask if you can help with anything. Your dad is lucky to have a great kid like you!

Wishing you & your family the best,
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,
My name is S.C. How old are you? Do you like fish? What is your favorite basketball team? Mine is the Lakers. I’m in fifth grade.

Sincerely, S.C.,

Dear S.C.,
I’m 10 and also in fifth grade. When you say “like fish,” do you mean as pets, as food or as an activity? I’m a big Suns fan. Recently, one of my Young Reporters got to ask Shaq and Steve Nash a few questions! But the Lakers are amazing. Didja catch Kobe Bryant playing on the same team as Shaq during the All-Star Game?

Go Suns! Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer Bear,
I was reading “Boomer’s Blog” and it says something about a Young Reporters Program. How do I sign up?

Hey, Boomer!
Why can’t kids go out after curfew? It’s not like we will never come home.

—B.K.

Dear B.K.,
Actually, that’s not exactly true. When it comes to kids, a curfew is a safety thing. Parents really need to know where their kids are, and having a curfew that kids always follow helps.

Play it safe,
Boomer Bear

Hey, Boomer!
My family and I were riding bikes when we saw a snake eating its prey. We could (only) see the animal’s foot—it was totally “rat”ical!

Your friend, G.B.

Dear G.B.,
Wow, that’s just like one of those nature shows on “Animal Planet.” What kind of snake didja see?

Go wild!
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,
I really like this boy named T.R., and I like him more than any boy I have ever met. But, sometimes I feel like I scare him because I like him too much. But, then sometimes he acts really sweet, and it makes me think that he likes me a lot, too, but he can’t just admit it. What should I do?

Your friend, D.R.M.

Oh my, D.R.M.!
Sounds like you’re head over heels for T.R. Since he shows some interest in you, you might want to take a step back and give him a bit more space so you don’t scare him off. Take a deep breath and try to be yourself!

Best of luck, Boomer Bear
