Dear Boomer,
I’m your biggest fan!!! Have you ever seen snow before? I did! And have you ever eaten candy that’s sour and sweet? I did, but I didn’t like it.
Yours truly, A.P.
Hey, H.K.,
There are lots of places around Arizona that have gotten a lot of snow. The skiing and snowboarding are great up in the mountains. Sweet and sour isn’t my favorite, either.
Go fer the gold! Boomer Bear
Dear Boomer,
I love to draw, but I'm not very good. The only pictures I have ever done are stick figures. How can I become a better artist?
Your friend, W.T.
Dear AYA (aspiring young artist),
Stick figures can be art, too—you just have to be very creative about it! Seriously, have your folks buy you a sketchbook and some soft art pencils (like 2B or 4B) that’ll easily fit into your backpack. Take a little time every day to sketch things that catch your eye but aren't too complicated or hard to draw. Use several short strokes in making the shapes you want. You can also check out drawing books from the library! You can send your artwork to me for publishing in Bear Essential News:

Dear Boomer,
I just became a Young Reporter, but I have a few questions. What’s the press pass for? Does it get you into
the reporter club or something?
Do you have any advice for me?
Reporter Girl
Hey, Reporter Girl!
Your press pass is your official I.D. It tells people that you write for Bear Essential News and broadcast your stories on Fox10 and My 45 (since you’re in the Phoenix area).
You should get to work on your first story by looking around and finding something that’s interesting to write about, like what are kids at your school gonna do on their spring break!
You can e-mail me your story:

Have a blast, Boomer Bear
Dear Boomer,
Do you think judging a person by their grades is OK? I don’t think so, but many people I know judge people like that. It's not just your grades, it's your personality. What do you think?
Your buddy, C.H.
I agree with ya, C.H.!
Not everyone can be a straight A student, and it doesn’t make them any less of a person. I go for a person's heart over grades.
Boomer Bear
Boomer Bear,
I clean up trash to help the environment!
Your friend, A.G.
Dear A.G.,
I’ve put together a fun and informative feature for Earth Day! Check out pages 20 and 21. Bear is a long-time sponsor of the Earth Day Festival & Parade, which is Saturday, April 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the west side of Reid Park (www.tucsonearthday.org). Up north, Biosphere 2 also is celebrating Earth Day on April 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (www.b2science.org). Kids like you make our planet better!
Go green, Boomer Bear
Dear Boomer,
I love your newspaper! I really like the “Get the Scoop” pages.
I can’t believe that Bear Essential News was created 30 years ago!
Keep up the great work, C.P.
Dear C.P.,
I love putting my newspaper together each month for awesome readers like you. Thirty years is a long time!

Dear Boomer,
What’s your favorite subject and what do you do in your free time?
From your friend,
R.M.
Dear R.M.,
As you might’ve guessed, English and language arts are high on my list of favorite subjects! Also, is recess considered a subject? In my spare time, I like playing sports, working on my newspaper and answering letters like this one!
Work hard,
Boomer Bear
