Howdy Boomer,
I'm having money trouble! I owe for Girl Scout Cookies (about $12) and for the cell phone bill (about $20). How can I make $32 in less than a week?!
Sincerely, Need2Make$$$
Hola N2M$,
I don’t think the federal government is gonna bail you out of this tight spot. Obviously, you don’t have any birthday money left and you’ve probably raided your piggy bank already. You might need to make arrangements with your folks to get the dinero you need, with a promise to earn it over the next few weeks by doing extra work. Kids ages 11 to 15 can be Red Cross certified baby sitters by taking a course and earn some pretty good cash if they have the right contacts with families. Personally, frozen Thin Mints are my favorite cookie!
Your best buddy,
Boomer
Dear Boomer,
I have a problem. Kids are callin’ me dumb—what should I do?
Sincerely, M.D.
Dear M.D.,
As you know,
name-calling can be
very hurtful. Those who put others down have their own problems
they need to work out. Obviously, they aren’t your friends, and they don’t deserve to hang out with someone special like you!

Dear Bear Essential,
I think the biggest problem we face is health care. I think we should increase health care for more people.
Sincerely, M.S.
Dear M.S.,
You’re smart and have a good heart! With the economy being so weak, a lot of folks are losing their jobs, can’t find work and can’t afford health care for themselves or their families. But with money so tight and the Democrats fighting with the Republicans, I don’t know if Congress is gonna take that first big step to ENSURE that Americans have the health care that they need.
Hoping for the best,
Boomer Bear
Dear Boomer,
I really want to help the people and kids in Haiti—how can I help?
Yours truly, C.H.
Dear C.H.,
The terrible earthquake that flattened much of Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital, may have killed more than 200,000 people. Officials say about 300,000 of the survivors remain homeless. It’s going to take a long time and a lot of effort to rebuild the capital. Here are some sites to visit:
UnicefUSA.org
ClintonBushHaitiFund.org
WorldCare.org
RedCross.org
World Care—based here at 3538 E. Ellington Place, Tucson, AZ 85713— accepts cash, checks or donated items. You also can drop off items at any Rural/Metro Fire Station or Sun Flower Farmers Market. If you want to help kids, you can collect kids clothing, toothpaste and toothbrushes, wash cloths, baby shampoos, bar soap, diapers, infant formula, powdered milk, blankets and first aid stuff. Get your school involved!
Way to help!
