Dear Boomer,
I'm a Young Reporter, and I wanted to know if I can do an article about my dad because he made the aquarium in Phoenix.

--C.S.

Dear Boomer,
I've been thinking to be a Young Reporter, but I don't know what to write like a news story about some things that happened around town. Can you help me figure out something?

Thanks, H.J.

Hey Boomer!
I was wondering what do you do for summer? I'm actually looking forward to school because I AM BORED!

Please help, R.O.

Dear Boomer Bear,
The summer is great, but I'm also a Young Reporter and don't have time to write my article. I have ideas. I want to interview Jonny Diaz and lots of other people. Another article is about cats. What should I do?

Your Reporter, A.H.

Dear Boomer,
I'm thinking of washing dogs as a business. I also can sell gourmet dog treats and doggy toys. It can be right next to the dog park, so when dogs get dirty, they can get washed. I'll visit dog parks all around Tucson and will call it Woofin' Wheels. I love dogs, but how do I get started?

Your friend, R.B.

Dear S.S.,
What a refreshing, enterprising idea! As long as your neighbors are out and about, you should do well. I'd keep the flavors simple, although a touch of pineapple could be nice.

Good luck,
Boomer Bear

Dear Boomer,
I'm thinking about creating a Summer Smoothie Stand, where my mom and I will make the smoothies out in front of our house and sell it for only a dollar! What flavors do YOU think I should add?
(So far we have strawberry, banana and avacado.)

Situations like this can really mess up a friendship. You might want to step back and let things take their natural course, unless your friend isn't interested in him at all.

Boomer,

Hey, B.H.!
Bullying is a serious problem for a lot of kids. I'm glad you reported it to your teacher. But since things still aren't the way they should be, maybe you should visit your school counselor and explain everything. By law, the school needs to take care of this situation.

Keep your cool, Boomer Bear

Wonder Boomer

Dear Boomer,
I'm geting picked on at school, and I've told the teacher about it, but the problem is only a few of the people who picked on me stopped. Yesterday someone called me a bad name that I can't repeat here, and people are saying that all the boys I hang out with are my boyfriends. I need to know what to do.

Sincerely, B.H.

Come on, D.K.!
You know that work sheets aren't made for racing. Go at your own pace and write like you ought to. Save the racing for the track.

You're right, Boo77!
When I posed for my April cover in Phoenix, I was too far over and covered up the umbrella. My apologies to the kids, teachers and families in the Valley! Thanks for using Bear online.

Your buddy, Boomer Bear

Boomer says Yuck!

Dear Boomer Bear,
I was trying to find the umbrella on the April 2010 cover, but I could only find it on the online version. I think that Boomer Bear is a little too far to the left and he covers up the umbrella on my Phoenix newspaper.

Sincerely, Boo77

Dear D.V.,
I love dancin'! It's great exercise, and I look good on the dance floor, too. A lot of schools have year-end shows or pep rallies. Why not have you and your friends put a routine together?

Dance, dance, dance! Boomer Bear

Boomer,
I think that Bear Essential News should start holding dance contests or encourage schools to have them, not for solo dancers but for groups. It'd be fun and it's exercise! I have friends who love to dance. It's how they express themselves.

Hi Boomer,
My sister gets way too many homework for fifth grade. I wish she could have at least one day off.

OMG P.C.!
Just kidding--I'm not really that type. On the plus side, at least they aren't throwin' around "groovy" anymore! You're gonna be just fine, and they will, too. Who knows? Maybe you can learn some good things from each other.

Hey Boomer,
I have a problem. Some girls in my class are being really mean. One of them always says hopes and dreams are stupid. And most of them say "Oh my gosh!" every two seconds. They leave me out of all their conversations. I think it's because I'm more of a tomboy than a girly girl. I like sports and "obnoxious" TV shows that boys usually like. They like posing for photos and hanging out together 24/7. One of these girls was my best friend in kindergarten! What should I do?

Your friend, P.C.

Dear J.H.,
That's a tough situation! Even though family should treat family well, they don't always get along, especially brothers and sisters. If your brother and cousins are mean, I wouldn't change my ways to fit in with them! Next time you're alone with your mom or dad, you might wanna share how you feel and why.

Tu amigo, Boomer Bear

Hola Boomer,

That's not a very good atmosphere for the kids in your class. Students who work together and appreciate each other are gonna do great things as a class. Maybe you should speak to your teacher to see what can be done!

Hey, Boomer!
There's this problem in my class. Everyone is name-calling and being really rude. I think my class is just trying to be 'cool.'

Yours truly, C.H.

Dear AYA (aspiring young artist),
Stick figures can be art, too--you just have to be very creative about it! Seriously, have your folks buy you a sketchbook that'll easily fit into your backpack and some soft art pencils (like 2B or 4B). Take a little time every day to sketch things that catch your eye, that aren't too complicated or hard to draw. Use several short strokes in making the shapes you want. You can also check out drawing books from your school library! You can send your artwork to me for publishing in Bear Essential News: Kids' Stuff, 1037 S. Alvernon Way, Suite 150, Tucson AZ 85711.

Hola N2M$,
I don't think the federal government is gonna bail you out of this tight spot. Obviously, you don't have any birthday money left and you've probably raided your piggy bank already. You might need to make arrangements with your folks to get the dinero you need, with a promise to earn it over the next few weeks by doing extra work. Kids ages 11 to 15 can be Red Cross certified babysitters by taking a course and earn some pretty good cash if they have the right contacts with families. Personally, frozen Thin Mints are my favorite cookie!

What can I do for Y to stop being mean to me and my other friend who's not really part of this story?

Friend Trouble, H.S.

Hey, S.M.!
Kids can be really mean sometimes, and most bullies are often the ones who need help. No one has a right to bully you, and schools have to take any reports about bullying seriously (it's the law in Arizona and a lot of states). Don't be afraid to report bullying to your teacher, counselor or principal.

Now's the perfect time for kids and parents to step up! Even though the 7.0-magnitude earthquake lasted only a minute, it killed more than 100,000 people and left millions in desperate need of help. It's not easy for kids to get together, even if it's just to hang out. And now that you're homeschooling, not having your friends around is probably amplified. Hi Boomer,
No one understands my feelings. When I try to talk to someone, they ignore me and carry on with another conversation. Sometimes I get in trouble. I'm not a bad person, but people label me as a troublemaker. It's just because of all the stress at home and at school.

Can you help me, Boomer? S.J.

Dear H.S.,
Quite a dilemma! Long-distance relationships are harder to handle, although texting, twittering and social Web sites make it easier than ever to keep in touch. While I understand that looks are important here, maybe you should consider which girl you enjoy talking to the most or have the most in common with.

Dear S.R.,
While we can't be good all the time, we can help being mean to other kids. Sometimes it's just a phase that goes away after a bit. But sometimes being mean or aggressive is a sign of personal problems. Either way, you don't have to put up with that kind of bad behavior!

Dear S.A.,
Thanks for sharing your worries--you sound miserable under all this pressure. At this point, the grades are set, so worrying about 'em isn't going to help. For this new grading period, listen closely to your teacher's instructions, work hard at school and try not to miss any assignments. Remember, no kid is perfect--just put in the effort!

Hi, E.I.!
That's a tough situation, especially with schools facing such big cuts when it comes to the money they need. You can make a difference by being part of the student council or maybe you could organize some sort of group that includes a few students, staff and parents that could come up with some solutions to your school's problems. The more everyone gets involved, the better!

Dear S.S.,
I don't blame ya for being upset. Not all is lost, though. Hopefully, there's a good reason the sleepover went down like this. Maybe you should talk to your friend and explain how the sleepover switch made you feel bad. (I wouldn't text her, since that could be shown around to just about anybody, including M.N.) I think it's a mistake to become territorial about your friend, and sometimes forgiveness and understanding can strengthen a friendship.

Dear C.M.,
I'm sorry Luckii isn't with your family. But it sounds like your dad made the best of a tough situation. A dog that bites people is a serious problem, especially when young kids are around. Dear L.C.,
Being promoted is exciting, but tons of kids worry about starting a new school, making friends and handling all the challenges, even the little ones like remembering how to open your locker! Try to relax enough so you can enjoy the experience. Be organized (like carry your locker combo in your pocket until you memorize it) and don't be afraid to try new things and make new friends.

Stay cool, Boomer Bear

Dear M.T.,
I felt sad when I heard the news that Michael, the King of Pop, had died suddenly in his Los Angeles home. His memorial service is today, and people around the world will say goodbye to this incredible entertainer! His music, dancing and costumes made for unforgettable performances. When someone you love is sick or injured, sometimes it's the simple, everyday things you do that can mean the most. I spoke with Dr. Karen Weihs who heads up Psychosocial Support and PsychoOncology Services at the Arizona Cancer Center. She studies the importance of family support to people who are fighting cancer. Dr. Weihs says that keeping your dad part of your regular life is very important. Spend time with him and share what's going on at school and whatever else you're into. She suggests a lot of hugs and don't be shy about telling him how you think he's terrific. And every now and then, you can ask if you can help with anything. Your dad is lucky to have a great kid like you!
