Imago Theatre: ‘ZooZoo’ and Children’s Festival at Centennial
by Reporter Sophia Alexander, Ventana Vista Elementary
Who likes animals and watching plays? If that’s you, a great show called ZooZoo is coming to Tucson on Jan. 29 at UofA’s Centennial Hall. Hilarious skits fill the stage as joy fills the young and old in the audience. It’s an experience you don’t want to miss!
Imago Theatre: “ZooZoo” shows at 4 p.m. Tickets start at $10. Before the show, be sure to check out UA Presents’ 4th Annual Children’s Festival. This free event in front of Centennial Hall has art and literacy activities, entertainment and fun for kids and families. The festival is from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
In 1979 Carol Triffle and Jerry Mouawad co-founded Imago Theatre. Their home base is Portland, Oregon, where they work and perform. They tour in the U.S. and internationally.
Their show “ZooZoo” is a laugh-out-loud play about how the actors see themselves in the animals. The animals come into the crowd and the audience gets to be a part of the show. Furry polar bears come tromping over the isles and penguins playing musical chairs may take your seat.
All of the costumes are hand made! The entire cast has only five actors. Think how many times during a show they need to change costumes! They can work up to four months to develop a five-minute skit. The directors and actors get lots of help from different professionals for costumes, masks, lighting and special effects.
You will be amazed at what you see. Hope to see you there! For more
information about Imago Theatre: “ZooZoo” or the Children’s Festival, visit www.uapresents.org.
