Teacher Worksheets for February 2020

Hello, Educators!

STEM and sustainability continue to be front and center in Bear Essential’s February issue. And we appreciate your students spending time on the pull-out Field Guide to Community Action done in conjunction with ASU’s Sustainability Solutions Service. It is incredibly well thought out and a challenge for kids to think about what community means and how they can improve things.

Continuing to promote STEM statewide, the Arizona SciTech Festival has four fun and informative pages, including a coloring contest for all ages—color the SciTech gecko for your chance to win a Festival T-shirt, two tickets to the Arizona Science Center and more! Adults can enter, too! A list of some outstanding Signature Events for the SciTech Festival is included.

There is so much fun for everyone around the state. SciTech events are happening in February and dozens of the upcoming Signature Events (many of which are free). They include ASU’s Open Door events that highlight the amazing things the university does in the community.

For a full listing of the hundreds of STEM events happening, go to http://scitechinstitute.org/scitech-festival/

In Tucson, the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show run now through Feb. 16, Rodeo break is coming up, too.

For its SciTech Signature Event, Bear is putting on an amazing Young Reporter Science Night with Saguaro National Park West, starting at the Red Hills Visitor Center at 4 p.m. on March 7. Families of Young Reporters and Young Reporter wannabees can call to sign up for this FREE event, which includes a BBQ, learning about the stars through telescopes run by the Tucson Amateur Astronomy Assoc., and a creepy-crawly night hike with blacklights! Call ASAP—space is limited: 520-792-9930.

Young Reporter Advisers—please encourage your reporters to keep submitting their great stories. They are our eyes and ears at your school in at all the activities they do! Students from all over the state in grades 3 through 8 can fill out our sign-up form and start reporting for Bear Essential News. Tucson reporters get to tape their stories at KVOA and they air on TV and the Bear web site.

The February standards-based Classroom Worksheets are posted online and augment this issue. Please forward this email to your teaching teammates, and they can sign up for these notifications online at BearEssentialNews.com.

Have a fab Feb,

Stephen B Gin
