Kids get the scoop on the world of journalism
The Young Reporters Program gives kids in grades 3 through 8 the opportunity to experience journalism firsthand. Through this free program of Bear Essential Educational Services, kids learn the fundamentals of reporting and how to apply them by writing for the "Get the Scoop" section of Bear Essential News for Kids.
The program began 26 years ago. Its purpose is to help young people develop their writing and communications skills, and to bolster the reporters' self-esteem.
Even by professional standards, Young Reporters are a big success at getting the scoop. They cover stories close to home like school food drives and community events. They also nab national stories, interviewing some of the biggest names in politics, sports and entertainment. Young Reporters have the responsibility of reporting what's making news in their world.
Thanks to the hard work by Young Reporters, Bear Essential News is truly a newspaper for kids, by kids.
